Will You Be a Part of This Great Cause in 2019?

July is Military Month at NAPA Auto Parts, and we’re gearing up for another monumental year of raising funds for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund (IFHF), which serves U.S. military personnel suffering the effects of traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress.

Since 2012, NAPA Auto Parts has raised a whopping $11.5 million for the non-profit organization. At IFHF, 100 percent of all donations goes directly to their programs. (IFHF’s Board of Directors underwrites all administrative costs, and no portion of contributions are deducted.)

“In today’s world of charity, that is very, very unusual,” NAPA President Dan Askey said in an interview with Glenbrook Auto Parts, explaining how NAPA first began raising funds for IFHF. “And then to know they were going to use the money to build these Spirit Centers—to bring the brain trauma experts closer to our soldiers at bases around the United States. It just really, really made sense.

“Plus, there’s something about the military that resonates with our customers, our employees and our store owners. They’re just really proud to be American, and they’re really proud that we fought for our freedom.”

Intrepid Fallen Hero Fund Achievements

IFHF’s achievements include the National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE), a treatment and research center in Bethesda, MD, for those with Traumatic Brain Injury and associated conditions. Since NICoE’s completion in 2010, IFHF has built seven satellite Intrepid Spirit Centers to serve troops around the country. An eighth Spirit Center is under construction, and two more are planned. More than 90 percent of patients treated at the Spirit Centers continue on Active Duty.

How can your shop, fleet or organization support this worthy cause in July? “It starts with letting everybody know what we’re doing and why it’s important,” Askey says, suggesting that you also ask how you can help make July’s Military Month the “absolute biggest Intrepid Hero event we’ve ever seen.”

When NAPA first began raising money for IFHF, the donations revolved around sales of batteries and rotating electrical parts. This year, the July sales flyer “is going to have donations for almost every single item,” Askey says. “Some as small as 10 cents; some are several dollars…Wear the shirts. Wear the hats. Let everyone know we’re raising money for IFHF.”
